OUR STORY

Giving life to great stories

Showborough Books was started to make one wonderful story available to everyone. Glyn K Green had attracted the interest of a number of major literary agents for Jung for Kittens. They loved the writing style and the story and said it would be easy to place with a major publisher if it had not been a first novel. One said it would either be a cult bestseller or sink without trace. Sadly, in the days of ebooks and Amazon, the publishing industry has become very risk-averse. Cookbooks and books by celebrities - or preferably cookbooks by celebrities -  are  a much safer option than unusual books by new authors, however brilliant.

There are many firms who offer vanity publishing or help with self-publishing but some can be minefields for the unwary. At Showborough we found people who could do all the necessary jobs well to bring a work to publication as a high-quality book or ebook: editors, formatters, cover designers and printers.  We became a non-profit adviser to writers.

After Jung for Kittens we published Glyn's second novel The Music of the Cosmos. For books that we believe in we will guide authors through the process, including providing an ISBN, for publication as a Showborough Books imprint. Our latest project has been helping another local lady, Rebecca Lowrie, realise her ambitions for her self-help book based on her successful therapy practice.

JUNG FOR KITTENS

Glyn K Green

A modern fairy story for grown-ups predicated on the work of the psychiatrist Carl Jung.

A young man is forced by Fate to address his failings during a voyage of self-discovery. Set in London in 2010, it has humour, romance, darkness and a psychological take on the eternal battle between good and evil. Plus a kitten that is really - well, that would be telling, wouldn't it?

"... articulate, elegant, funny and poignant - I loved it." Erica B, Gloucester

".. I've enjoyed it even more second time around. Gosh it makes you think." Fiona MacD, Surrey

"A treasure... this is the most delightful, witty, original, thought provoking book I have had the good fortune to discover in a long time." JAS, online review.

"... both magical and realistic and clearly captures the human mind..." Aracelli, Cheltenham.

"I loved it for all its uniqueness..." Daniel S, London.

"This book is a delight... I read it in three afternoons on my sofa with a roaring fire and a large pot of tea and was sad when I got to the end." Helen B, Worcestershire.

"I loved this book... funny, entertaining, compelling... Highly recommended." Avid Reader, online review.

"This is a book to read multiple times... Enjoyable and enlightening." Lotustar, online review (USA)

THE MUSIC OF THE COSMOS

Glyn K Green

"There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the placing of the spheres."

And there are places on earth where Pythagoras' 'musica universalis' can make its celestial presence felt. Deep in the English countryside, Puckrup Hall is such a place. Currently in use as a boys' boarding school, it can bring extraordinary things and extraordinary challenges into the lives of those who go there. Especially those who are looking for something. Like Charlie Peterson, 32, gifted rock musician and songwriter who has lost his greatest friends, a glowing future, and his passion for music, in a tragic traffic accident. Though years have passed he has found neither joy nor closure. He ends up at Puckrup by virtue of curious coincidence and a barely remembered chemistry degree.

Being a school teacher would never, ever, have been on Charlie Peterson's bucket list - but the music of the cosmos doesn't baulk at a few dissonant chords when it's producing a score...

This is Glyn's second novel, following the success of Jung for Kittens: it is another funny, magical and life-affirming story packed with fascinating characters and stimulating ideas.

"... only hunger forced me to put it down. I love it. Beautifully written and totally captivating!" Alison B, Wiltshire.

"... gripping in achieving full attention, feeding the soul and even feeding the mind. Fiction beautifully woven with interesting facts on philosophy and even gardening - it's wonderfully different and highly recommended." Mrs LCG, online review.

"I loved both this one and Jung for Kittens. Exceptional." Amazon customer, online review.

"... a wonderful book. Wonderfully written with great characters and lots of interesting ideas too." EPD,
